It was the year 1937 and Billie Holiday's intense voice sang one of George Gershwin greatest classic song.
When I found myself at Bettina's stand during White Fair in Milan, this song suddenly came into my
mind and I also thought how a hats can be so precious in outlining style, personality and charm in a man
or woman.
It is an accessory that complete any kind of look and you need a certain disposition if you want to wear it.
Not everybody can because of its showy nature and it doesn't allow any kind of shyness.

The hats in the pictures are from new 2011 s/s collection by Bettina, historical hat factory created
in Florence by Raffaello Bettini and Primo Papini in 1938.
Their light colours, the workmanship, their rétro shapes remind me of those roaring twenties described i
n Francis Scott Fitzgerald books, and I think they would be perfect on some character in Big Gatsby style,
or on a cheeky flapper.
Personally I like them all and I wouldn't know what to choose: mannish for a tomboy style
or feminine and coquettish?

Era il 1937, la voce era quella suadente di Billie Holiday, la canzone uno dei più grandi classici del jazz
scritti da George Gershwin.
Appena mi sono ritrovata nel corner di Bettina al White di Milano mi è venuta in mente questa canzone
e ho pensato anche a quanto un cappello possa essere così prezioso nel delineare stile, personalità
e fascino di un uomo o una donna. E' un accessorio che completa qualsiasi tipo di look e richiede anche
un certo carattere per indossarlo. Non a tutti riesce l'impresa, perché è un elemento che si nota,
attira l'attenzione e non ammette alcun tipo di timidezza.

I cappelli che vedete in queste foto fanno parte della collezione della prossima primavera/estate e s
ono stati creati da Bettina, storica azienda fiorentina che si occupa di cappelli dal 1938.
Alla vista di queste tonalità chiare, delle fogge delicatamente retro, della pregiata manifattura,
ho pensato subito alle atmosfere twenties di Francis Scott Fitzerald: di sicuro questi cappelli
starebbero benissimo sulla testa di qualche personaggio del Grande Gatsby, o indossati da qualche
flapper sfacciata e impertinente.
A me, personalmente piacciono tutti e non saprei quale scegliere: maschile per un effetto tomboy
o super femminile e un po' civettuolo?
Intanto, mentre aspetto la prossima primavera, non mi separo neanche un istante dai miei cappelli invernali!
